The Department of Biochemistry, Integral Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (IIMSR), Integral University, Lucknow, successfully organized a seminar on World Obesity Day 2026 on March 07, 2026, at the Multipurpose Hall, 2nd Floor, Phase I, IIMSR.

The seminar, centered on the theme “8 Billion Reasons to Act on Obesity,” was conducted under the guidance of institutional authorities and delivered by Dr. Mimoh Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry. The programme aimed to raise awareness about obesity as a growing global health concern, its associated metabolic complications, and the importance of preventive lifestyle interventions among students, faculty members, and healthcare professionals.

The event was graced by Dr. Roshan Alam, Professor & Head, Department of Biochemistry, who highlighted the alarming rise in obesity worldwide and its strong association with non-communicable diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, hypertension, and cardiovascular disorders. He emphasized the importance of community awareness, adoption of healthy dietary practices, and regular physical activity to address this pressing health issue.

Dr. Shahid Iqbal, Lab Director and Professor, Department of Biochemistry, served as the moderator of the seminar. He underscored the crucial role of academic and medical institutions in creating awareness about lifestyle-related disorders and encouraged students and healthcare professionals to actively engage in health education and preventive care initiatives.

Dr. Furquan Alam, Deputy Medical Superintendent and Professor, Department of Biochemistry, highlighted the importance of early identification of obesity, routine health check-ups, balanced nutrition, and lifestyle modification as key strategies to prevent obesity-related complications and enhance overall quality of life.

The seminar witnessed active participation from faculty members, postgraduate students, tutors, and MBBS students, who engaged enthusiastically in discussions and interactive sessions, making the programme both informative and impactful.

The seminar successfully fulfilled its objective of spreading awareness about obesity and its far-reaching health implications.
