“World Wildlife Day 2020”


World wildlife day 2020 was enthusiastically observed by the department of Environmental Science, Integral University, Lucknow on 3rd March 2020. The theme of the event as given by United Nations was “Sustaining all life on Earth”. The animals and plants that are living in the wild have an intrinsic value and contribute to the ecological, genetic, social, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, recreational and aesthetic aspects of human well-being and sustainable development. World Wildlife Day is an opportunity to remind us of many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and help raises awareness about its conservation.

The program was initiated and anchored with an introductory speech by Dr. Rahila Rahman Khan, where she shared the information that the United Nations General assembly proclaimed World Wildlife Day in December of 2013 as a celebration that would take place on 3rd March every year. The eminent Guest and Key Speaker who graced this event was Mr. Mohd Ahsan, IFS Former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Head – Uttar Pradesh Forest Task Force, UP Forest Department. He shared his valuable experiences and gave us a thought to save our biodiversity for a better future. The burning topics like Amazon fire, Australian Bush fire, etc. were discussed durin the event and its consequences that immensely damaging our environment day by day. Prof. Monowar Alam Khalid, Head, Department of Environmental Science and Dean Students’ Welfare shared his exciting wildlife research and findings and gave a detailed presentation about the life,


ecology, habit and habitat along with the behaviour of Elephants. He provided the fruitful knowledge and engaged the audience with his captivating experiences with elephants in forests of North Bengal. The event was followed by interesting and informative presentations given by students namely Shariq Ashar from Agriculture Department on Snakes and Devrat Singh from Environmental Science Department on Wolfs. An impactful performance was given by students of B.Sc. Environmental Science, where they gave the layout about the disaster caused by forest fires that is rigorously killing flora and fauna of our treasure-Forest.



There was a speech competition organized by Department of Environmental Science by faculties, Dr. Anand Mishra, Miss. Lubna Furkan and Dr. Rahila Rahman Khan. Ms. Muskan Khan B.Sc. 1st Year (PME) got first position in speech competition whereas Neha Parveen B.Sc. 1st Year (PME) and Ms. Shrinee Mishra B.Sc. 1st Year, Environmental Science bagged second position jointly and Mr. Aman Singh Thakur B.Sc. (PMC) got the third position.

The event was highly liked by all as it witnessed more than 120 students from various departments of University. The event was also graced by the presence of Prof. Syed Aqueel Ahmad, Head Civil Engineering and Director, HRDC, Integral University. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Syed Saema.
