The Department of Languages has been a part and parcel of Integral University from its very inception. Its twin foci are Professional Communication and English Language, Grammar and Soft Skills as also ESP. The Department of Languages offers degrees at PhD, MA in English and BA English (as per NEP2020). The Department is committed to the study of literature in the footsteps of liberalization, privatization and globalization. The curriculum balances the classic literature of the past with the contemporary literatures of the present times.

Our courses offer active engagement with the dynamic scholarly and creative teaching-learning, covering a wide range of topics, historical eras, literary traditions, and critical approaches

• English literature from the medieval period through the present.
• American literature, including African American, Asian American.
• Postcolonial literature and theory, including African, Caribbean and South Asian literature, in English and in translation.

• Critical theory, ancient and modern.
• Rhetoric and oral presentation.
• Independent study projects (for students to work closely with faculty on topics of mutual interest).
• Opportunities to learn from distinguished scholars and academicians.

English is among the most interdisciplinary field of study, therefore, in addition to our own courses, English faculty actively contribute to other departments across the university through popular courses such as, Professional Communication, Technical Communication, Scientific Communication, Legal Communication, Business Communication, Medical Communication and Inter-Cultural Communication. The key component of various types of courses in professional communication is to cater the needs of the students aspiring for training, expertise and excellence in professional communication with a marked emphasis on English for Specific/Special Purposes (ESP).

The study of English language and literature does not mean blind adherence to the culture of the former colonizers, neither a means of securing a good job merely, but a way of enlightening the mind, ennobling the soul and emboldening the character.
