Upon completing the Minor in Cyber Security, students will have developed a comprehensive skill set spanning hands-on technical security, ethical hacking, cryptographic protocols, and organisational risk governance. The minor maps to UN SDGs 4 (Quality Education) and 9 (Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure), and emphasises employability and professional ethics throughout its five-course arc.

Introduction to Cybersecurity

Students gain foundational knowledge of the cybersecurity landscape — threat taxonomy, attack vectors, CIA triad principles, and basic defensive strategies — preparing them to recognise and respond to common digital threats in real-world environments.

Ethical Hacking & Penetration Testing

Students learn to think like an attacker: conducting structured penetration tests, exploiting vulnerabilities in controlled labs, and documenting findings professionally. Emphasis on legal and ethical boundaries ensures responsible disclosure skills alongside technical proficiency.

Network Security & Cryptography

Students understand secure communication protocols, cryptographic algorithms (symmetric, asymmetric, hashing), PKI infrastructure, and network-layer defences including firewalls, VPNs, and IDS/IPS systems for safeguarding enterprise networks.

Cybersecurity Risk Management

Students develop the ability to identify, quantify, and treat cyber risks using industry-standard frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001). Skills include business impact analysis, risk registers, and designing security controls aligned with organisational risk appetite.

Cybersecurity Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC)

Students acquire expertise in regulatory compliance (GDPR, IT Act), security policy development, audit readiness, and board-level reporting. They can bridge the gap between technical teams and executive leadership on cybersecurity posture and assurance.
