Awareness Program on Rainwater harvesting

An awareness program at the Adhar Khera Village, Kursi road, Tehsil Bakshu ka Talab, Lucknow was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering on 28 October 2021. The faculty coordinators for the program were Mr. Nusrat Ali, Mr. Mohd. Kashif Khan and Dr. Sabih Ahmad. Students of B.Tech Civil Engineering actively participated in the event. The student coordinators were Ayush Maurya and Hanzaladdin of B. Tech 4th year and 3rd year respectively. A camp was arranged at the central place of the village Adhar Khera, Kursa road. India is one of the developing countries in the world. Above 50% of the people depends upon the agriculture in our country Agriculture is the backbone of many developing countries, especially in India. Water is one of the most important factors in agriculture and also other sectors. All over the world, water usage are increasing day by day, but awareness of water management for the people in the world is insufficient Rainwater harvesting is the process of augmenting the natural filtration of rainwater in to the underground formation by some artificial methods. Conscious collection and storage of rainwater to cater to demands of water, for drinking, domestic purpose & umigation is termed as Rainwater Harvesting

Students are aware of the villagers about the Rooftop rainwater harvesting (RTRWH) that which is the most common technique of rainwater harvesting (RWH) for domestic consumption in rural areas and this is most often done at small-scale. It is a simple, low-cost technique that requires minimum specific expertise or knowledge and offers many benefits. Rainwater is collected on the roof and transported with pipes to a storage reservoir, where it provides water at the point of consumption or can be used for recharging a well or the aquifer Students also told that rainwater quality may be affected by air pollution, animal or bird droppings, insects, dirt and organic matter therefore regular maintenance as well as treatment before water consumption are very important. Students discussed in length about different methods, advantages and disadvantages of rainwater harvesting. The villagers are using underground water for all household purposes. The students also visited various houses in the village to create awareness about the importance & conservation of water.
