Guest Lecture on "Medicinal Plants in Product Development and Regulation"

An interactive and informative guest lecture was organized by the Department of Bioengineering, Integral University Lucknow on October 29, 2021, from 10:00 am. The event was held at Seminar Hall, Department of Bioengineering, Integral University. The event was hosted by Ms. Faiza Siddiqi, M.Tech student, Department of Bioengineering. She welcomed the guest speaker Dr. C. V Rao and all the dignitaries present for the event. She gave a brief introduction about the guest speaker, Dr. C. V Rao, Senior Principal Scientist and Head of Pharmacology Laboratory, CSIR- National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow. He is a Fellow of The National Society of Ethnopharmacology 2012. He is instrumental in the pharmacological screening of herbal drugs and products for safety and efficacy studies. Dr. Rao received a Technology award in the development and commercialization of the Antidiabetic product BGR-34/NBRMAP which is an Ayurvedic-derived product that is sold in India as an over-the-counter pill for the management of type 2 diabetes. To his credit, he is holding 38 patents and a number of the products were commercialized.
Dr. Rao addressed the audience that included faculty members, Lab instructors, and students of the department. He shared his in-depth knowledge and practical experience on the topic “Medicinal Plants in Product Development and Regulation”. He cleared many misconceptions related to herbal drugs and informed us about the rules and regulations related to herbal product development. He motivated students to translate their classroom teaching into marketable products. The audience found the lecture beneficial, informative, motivational, and relevant in the current scenario. He addressed all the queries of the listeners related to the lecture and general medical awareness. The event was concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Archana Vimal, Assistant Professor, Department of Bioengineering.
