International Day of Yoga - 2021

In compliance with the directive of the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, 7th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Integral University, Lucknow on 21 set June, 2021. The programme, which is usually organized every year in the beautiful lawns of the lush green campus of the University, was conducted ONLINE due to the pandemic and as per instructions of the Ministry. The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga 2021 was “Yoga for well-being”, which resonates with the need of current scenario due to lockdown and work from home situations, restricting movement of people. The word Yoga originated from the Sanskrit word ‘Yuja’ which means 9; to join or to unite’. The programme was organized online by the Office of the Dean, Students’ Welfare and Integral University Sports Academy, Integral University involving students and faculty members took part in it. Nations has marked the day to raise awareness about the many benefits of practising Yoga for people all over the world and 21st June was chosen because it is the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere. Prof. Khalid introduced the resource person Dr. Laxminarayan Joshi, an eminent Yoga Guru, Founder faculty & Head Dept of Yogic Science and also Dean Students Welfare at Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Haridwar. With a Masters in Physical education and Doctorate in Yogic Science in Yoga Therapy, he has more than 30 years of experience in delivering talks and performing yoga both Nationally andInternationally. During the online programme, yoga performances covering various important Aasanas like PawanMukta Aasan, Surya Namaskar-12 Asanas, Utthan Pad Aasan, SarvangAasan, Hal Aasan, Bhujang Aasan, ShalbhAasan, DhanurAasan, SetuvandhAasan were demonstrated along with Jal Neeti, NaadiShoodhanPranayaam, BhrambriPranayaam, KapaalBhati. These were practically demonstrated andexplained in simple ways for understanding. More than 306 participants registered and attended thisonline programme, which was highly appreciated by them. All the participants were given participatione-certificates. The Program was nicely anchored by Dr. Anand Mishra, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Science and supported by Ms. Sitara Sahni. The Program ended with the Vote of Thanks given by Dr. Mohd. Zafar, Director Sports Academy, Integral University, Lucknow.
