Workshop on “LEPROSY: BREAKING MYTHS"

Integral Unversity Event

The Faculty of Law, Integral University, Lucknow in collaboration with SASAKAWA-INDIA LEPROSY FOUNDATION (S-ILF), organized a workshop on “LEPROSY: BREAKING MYTHS" under the aegis of YOUNG PARTNERS PROGRAM” on 15.02.2023 at 11 A.M. The United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, a significant blueprint for achieving a better and more sustainable future for all. Faculty of Law, Integral University, Lucknow, for addressing the Sustainable Development Goal Number 3 i.e., "Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages" in collaboration with Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation (S-ILF), organised the said workshop.

Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation (S-ILF), a registered Indian Charitable Trust, is the brainchild of Mr Yohei Sasakawa, WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy eradication and recipient of the prestigious International Gandhi peace Prize 2018 by Govt. of India.

As you know, India achieved the goal of eliminating leprosy as a public health threat in 2005. But still, around 1.25 lac new cases are reported every year. Though completely curable, this bacterial disease is still attached to stigma and persons affected by it are discriminated against. S-ILF introduced sensitization and awareness sessions in schools and colleges in 2013. The workshop was academically enriching for our students to get an insight into the legal and social aspects of this problem. Such activities generate an intellectual movement to promote a culture of intellectual and social responsibility. This workshop session also caters to the requirement of the United Nations Academic Impact which focuses on the Sustainable Development Guidelines of the United Nations. Such workshops not only inculcate the sociological aspect of law but also remind us of our moral responsibility as a citizen.

The guest speaker, Mr. TANZEEL KHAN (Development Professional) delivered a very informative lecture. He talked at length about the causes of leprosy and its effects at large and gave the solutions as to how can one protect themselves against the disease of leprosy and also the early signs and symptoms of the said disease.

150+ registrations were received for attending the sensitization workshop on leprosy. The members of the faculty and the students gained a lot of information on this important and burning issue that is tormenting our society for a long time.
