World Water Day

Integral Unversity Event

In compliance with the University activity calendar directives, the Department of Civil Engineering organized “World Water Day 2023” on 22nd March 2023. World Water Day is an annual observance day highlighting water resources' importance and advocating its sustainable management. It focuses on accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis. Celebrated annually on 22 March, World Water Day raises awareness and inspires action to tackle the water and sanitation crisis.

Every year the Department of Civil Engineering acknowledges the importance of water and raises awareness of the global water crisis, and a core focus of the observance is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: “water and sanitation for all by 2030.” The theme of World Water Day 2023 is Accelerating change. World Water Day 2023 is about accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis. Dysfunction throughout the water cycle undermines progress on all major global issues, from health to hunger, gender equality to jobs, education to industry, and disasters to peace. To raise awareness and acknowledge the worth of this exquisite natural resource, an Online Quiz Competition (Quiz on Water-Aquatech 2.0) was organized on 21st March 2023 followed by an Expert Lecture on 22nd March 2023.

The guest of honor Er. Alok Kumar Sinha, Superintending Engineer, Minor Irrigation Former Chief Engineer (SWSM/JJM) delivered an expert lecture. He emphasized that right now, we are seriously off-track to meet Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030. Billions of people and countless schools, businesses, healthcare centers, farms, and factories don’t have the necessary safe water and toilets. Freshwater is crucial to the socioeconomic growth of a country. It is required to protect people's welfare and way of life. In terms of nutrition, health, society, education, economy, and the sustainability of the environment, fresh water also has a very complex worth. This limited and precious resource could be improperly managed if any of these values are disregarded. He also pondered on the fact that Sustainable management of water is the practice of efficiently using and protecting the world's water resources for the benefit of current and future generations.

24 students participated in the guest lecture. The expert lecture was followed by the prize distribution ceremony. The quiz competition was open to all students of the University. 270 students participated in this quiz competition. E-Certificates were also provided to all the participants.
