The United Nations General Assembly’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outline a comprehensive global framework aimed at ensuring the well-being of the planet and its people through balanced economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection. Integral University acknowledges the importance and urgency of these global priorities and is deeply committed to contributing toward the realization of the SDGs. This commitment is reflected in the University’s policies, academic programs, research endeavors, and community outreach activities that align with various SDG targets.

Responsible Consumption and Production

Sustainable Development Goal 12 emphasizes the need to ensure responsible consumption and production patterns, which are essential for achieving overall sustainable development. It calls for efficient resource utilization, reduction of waste generation, adoption of cleaner production technologies, and encouragement of sustainable lifestyles. Integral University has actively engaged in promoting awareness, research, and innovation in this area. Faculty members and researchers across departments have been contributing through impactful studies, projects, and publications that address issues such as waste minimization, recycling, sustainable materials, green chemistry, and eco-friendly production processes. The University also emphasizes the integration of sustainable practices in laboratories, classrooms, and campus operations to serve as a model for responsible resource management. To date, approximately 117 research publications have been produced by faculty and researchers focusing on themes related to responsible consumption and production. These works collectively aim to promote sustainable approaches that minimize environmental impact, conserve natural resources, and support a circular economy for a more resilient and sustainable future.

Ethical Sourcing Policy

Integral University has implemented an Ethical Sourcing Policy as part of its Scholarship and Financial Support Policy to ensure transparency, fairness, and sustainability in procurement. The policy promotes sourcing from suppliers who uphold ethical labor practices, environmental responsibility, and human rights standards.

Integral Business School (IBS), Integral University, Lucknow, organized a Two-Day Sensitization Workshop on Financial Literacy to promote ethical and informed financial decision-making. The workshop, conducted by Mr. Nawabuddin from NISM, enhanced participants’ understanding of responsible financial management, budgeting, and investment ethics. A total of 70 students attended, and 67 qualified for certification.

The initiative promoted responsible budgeting, mindful investment, and reduction of unethical financial behaviors, thereby reinforcing the importance of sustainability in financial and economic activities.

Policy Waste Disposal - Hazardous Materials

Integral University has established a Hazardous Waste Disposal Policy under its Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Operations Policy to ensure safe handling, segregation, and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with environmental standards.

The ICEIR and Department of Biosciences, Integral University, Lucknow, organized a One-Day Laboratory Biosafety Training Workshop on December 7, 2024, to enhance awareness of biosafety principles, containment levels, and risk assessment practices. A total of 40 participants, including students, researchers, and faculty, attended the event. Dr. B.N. Singh (CSIR-CDRI, Lucknow) delivered an expert lecture on “Biosafety Levels and Containment Practices,” followed by hands-on training by Dr. Kauser Mahmood Ansari (CSIR-IITR, Lucknow) on biosafety handling and waste management. The workshop successfully strengthened participants’ understanding of laboratory safety and best practices, coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Mohd. Ikram Ansari (Member Secretary, IBSC).

Waste Disposal - Landfill Policy

Integral University has formulated a Waste Disposal – Landfill Policy as a part of its Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Operations Policy to promote responsible waste management and environmental sustainability.

The Department of Chemistry, Integral University, in collaboration with SparkLiv, organized an awareness programme titled “Combating Plastic Pollution: A Growing Menace” on June 5, 2025, to mark World Environment Day, under the Laboratory Safety and Hazardous Waste Disposal Committee. The programme featured an E-Poster Presentation on “Trash the Plastic, Not the Planet” and expert lectures by Ms. Radhika Mishra (SparkLiv) and Dr. Tripti Ahuja (CSIR-IITR, Lucknow). A total of 79 participants (27 external, 52 internal) attended. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about plastic pollution and encourage responsible use, recycling, and sustainable alternatives to protect the environment.

Policy for Minimisation of Plastic Use

Integral University has formulated a Policy for Minimisation of Plastic Use as a part of its Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Operations Policy to reduce plastic consumption and promote sustainable alternatives.

The Department of Environmental Science, in collaboration with EcoSync, organized a Community Awareness Program on “Beat Plastic Pollution” on June 5, 2025, to mark World Environment Day. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the adverse effects of plastic pollution and promote sustainable, eco-friendly alternatives.

Faculty members highlighted the importance of reducing single-use plastics, adopting biodegradable options, and encouraging community-led environmental action. The event saw active participation from 35 students, faculty, and local residents, who pledged to minimize plastic use and support green practices.

The Department of Environmental Science, Integral University, organized a guest lecture on “Mission LiFE Awareness Programme on Waste Management for Sustainable Lifestyle” on July 18, 2024. The session aimed to promote small lifestyle changes that collectively support environmental sustainability. Ms. Anuradha Gupta, Founder and General Secretary, Prithvi Innovations (NGO), Lucknow, delivered an insightful talk and demonstrated eco-friendly products made from biodegradable and reusable materials. Around 40 participants attended the interactive session, which emphasized reducing solid waste at the source and adopting sustainable daily practices.

Disposable Policy: Extensions to Services

Integral University has formulated a Disposable Policy – Extensions to Services as part of its Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Operations Policy to minimize the use of disposable materials in service operations.

The Department of Environmental Science, Integral University, in collaboration with the National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), organized an EIACP Centre event at CSIR-NBRI, Lucknow, to celebrate World Environment Day 2024 on June 5, 2024, focusing on the global theme “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience”.

The event, held under Mission LiFE, featured interactive sessions led by Dr. Anju Patel, Major (Dr.) Manmeet Kaur Sodhi, and Ms. Anuradha Gupta, encouraging sustainable lifestyle practices and innovative solutions for resource conservation.

A panel discussion with Dr. A. K. Shasany (CSIR-NBRI), Shri D. K. Soni (CPCB), Dr. M. A. Khalid (Integral University), and Ms. Anuradha Gupta (Prithvi Innovations), moderated by Dr. Ambrina Sardar Khan, addressed policy actions and R&D strategies for tackling land degradation and climate change. Participants pledged to support Mission LiFE and received saplings under the “Vriksh Parigrah” initiative, reaffirming their commitment to environmental protection. A total of 127 participants from 12 organizations took part, including students and faculty of Environmental Science, Integral University.

Minimisation Policies Extended to Suppliers

Integral University has adopted a Minimisation Policy for Suppliers under its Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Operations Policy to promote reduced packaging and sustainable procurement practices.

The Department of Environmental Science and Integral Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology, Integral University, in collaboration with TERI, organized the Valedictory and Certificate Distribution Ceremony for the six-week Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) on 18 July 2024. The training aimed to equip participants with practical skills in waste management, resource recovery, and sustainable practices. A total of 30 Scheduled Caste students successfully completed the programme, gaining hands-on experience through expert sessions and demonstrations. The event concluded with certificate distribution, attended by around 50 participants, marking the successful culmination of the skill development initiative promoting green livelihood opportunities and environmental sustainability.

Waste Tracking

Measuring and managing waste at Integral University is a vital component of its sustainability framework, aimed at minimizing environmental impact and promoting resource efficiency. The University follows a structured and data-driven approach to monitor, analyze, and improve waste management practices across campus.

Key steps in the waste tracking process include:

  • Establishing a Baseline: Assessing the quantity and types of waste generated across different departments, hostels, and facilities.
  • Data Collection & Measurement: Recording daily waste generation to identify major sources and patterns.
  • Implementing a Recycling Program: Ensuring segregation at source into wet and dry waste to maximize recycling and composting.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Reviewing waste data periodically to evaluate progress and refine management strategies.
  • Promoting Awareness and Involvement: Conducting workshops, awareness drives, and student engagement programs to encourage responsible waste practices.
  • Continuous Monitoring and Improvement: Regular audits and feedback mechanisms ensure sustained progress toward a zero-waste campus.

Proportion of Waste Recycled

A significant proportion of waste generated at Integral University is recycled or repurposed for various uses as per campus requirements—supporting the University’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Publication of a Sustainability Report

Integral University publishes its Sustainability Report to highlight its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable growth. The University practices systematic waste management through daily segregation of wet and dry waste, composting organic matter into nutrient-rich manure, and promoting recycling and reuse under its “Think Green Campus Model.” These initiatives reflect the University’s dedication to energy conservation, carbon reduction, and fostering an eco-conscious campus culture.
