The Faculty of Architecture, Planning & design has celebrated 10th “National Handloom Day” on August 8th 2024. This event aims the contributions of skilled handloom weavers to our country's culture and economy. This occasion highlights the significance of the handloom industry in our past and provides more power to those who are employed in it.
The Renowned expert Mr. Abhishek Pathak (founder of Greenwear -Country’s 1st brand for solar Vastra) graced the event. Mr. Pathak set out to become a “Solar Vastra Entrepreneur”. So far, he has been instrumental in getting 3,500 women from UP, Bihar, Gujarat, and Rajasthan trained in solar charkha skills.
Commencing with a captivating historical journey, of Mr. Pathak as an entrepreneur he introduced the solar charkha to the students defining its importance in real life. He introduced techniques used in charkha and weaving innovations to make intricate designs and motifs.
On the occasion of this day students displayed their work done by hand like, natural dyes, weaving, tie and dye, embroideries, batik and draping traditional textiles which is appreciated by our guest.
The seamless coordination and management of the session was orchestrated by dedicated efforts of students and Ms. Anusha Mishra (Assistant Professor, Fashion Design) and Mr. Aaqib Ahmad(Assistant Professor, Fashion Design), under the guidance and support of Prof. Zeba Nisar (Dean, FoAPD) and Prof. (Dr.) Safiullah Khan (Head of Department).
