Documentary Screening on Wetlands Marks World Wetlands Day

Integral University Event

The Department of Environmental Science, Integral University, Lucknow, organized a documentary screening on 02 February 2026 in observance of World Wetlands Day, with the objective of promoting environmental awareness and enhancing students’ understanding of the ecological importance of wetlands. The event aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

The documentary highlighted the Ramsar Sites declared in India, focusing on their ecological significance, biodiversity richness, and ongoing conservation efforts. The short film titled “Ramsites in India” showcased the magnificent wetlands of the country, including lakes, mangroves, estuaries, and floodplains, and emphasized their role in sustaining ecological balance.

Through this screening, students gained valuable insights into the vital functions of wetlands, such as regulating the water cycle, recharging groundwater, controlling floods, purifying water, and conserving plant genetic resources essential for food security. The documentary also highlighted India’s commitment to wetland conservation through various national programs and international collaborations.

The documentary was screened for students of B.Sc. and M.Sc. Environmental Science during their respective EVS class schedules, ensuring active participation and academic enrichment.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Mohd Kashif Khan and Dr. Anand Mishra under the aegis of Dr. Ambrina Sardar Khan, Head, Department of Environmental Science. The initiative reflects the department’s continuous efforts to promote environmental consciousness and encourage students to actively participate in biodiversity conservation and sustainable environmental practices.
