The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Integral University, organized a one-day seminar on “Contemporary Mechanical Design in Industry: Integration of SolidWorks CAD and 3D Printing Technologies” on February 2, 2026, at LT-3 (Room No. B013), B-Block. The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students of the department.
The event aimed to provide students with insights into contemporary mechanical design practices and their applications in modern industries. Special emphasis was laid on the integration of SolidWorks CAD software with 3D printing technologies, enabling participants to understand the complete digital design-to-manufacturing workflow. The seminar served as a platform to bridge the gap between conventional design methodologies and emerging manufacturing technologies widely adopted across industrial sectors.
The keynote session was delivered by Er. Mukarram Ali Khan, Founder, Solid CAD Solutions, who shared his expertise on modern mechanical design and additive manufacturing. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Kamran Rasheed, who highlighted the growing significance of advanced CAD tools and digital manufacturing technologies in the engineering profession.
During his presentation, Er. Khan discussed the fundamentals of mechanical design using SolidWorks, including parametric modelling, feature-based design, assembly modelling, and industrial design practices. He further explained the process of transforming CAD models into 3D-printed components, covering model preparation, file conversion, additive manufacturing considerations, and common challenges encountered during fabrication.
The resource person also emphasized the increasing industrial demand for professionals skilled in computer-aided design (CAD) and rapid prototyping technologies. Through real-world examples and industry case studies, participants gained valuable insights into the practical applications of CAD and 3D printing in product development and manufacturing.
More than 70 students attended the seminar. The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where participants actively engaged in discussions related to CAD modelling, additive manufacturing processes, and career opportunities in the field of mechanical design. Participation certificates were distributed to all attendees.
The seminar was conducted under the guidance of Dr. P. K. Bharti, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and was successfully coordinated by Dr. Kamran Rasheed and Dr. Abhishek Dwivedi. Their dedicated efforts ensured the smooth execution of the event and meaningful student participation.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Abhishek Dwivedi, who expressed gratitude to the resource person and participants for making the seminar a success. The event proved to be highly informative and enriching, enhancing students’ understanding of modern mechanical design tools and advanced manufacturing technologies that are shaping the future of engineering.
